That final dress.......

finals....

It is that time again....FINALS.....

As hectic and stressed as this time gets, I am excited to show what I have learned in the past three months....

For my final project in pattern making, we had to design, make the pattern, and sew a dress....

The only stipulations were that it had to be a dress, and had to have a true waist.

I sketched this dress well over a year ago....so I am excited to see it come to life.....

The dress is made of denim, has princess seams, and snaps down the front.....

As I continue to work, it has changed a little. I decided to drape the collar, as I wanted something more structured.... the pockets may change as well....

Excited to see how it turns out......pics to come...

cuffs!!

I am obsessed with cuffs....

I feel empowered when I wear them....

they are my ladylike armor........

here are a few beauties....

I am L-O-V-I-N-G the illustrations and designs of my new favorite up and coming designer Connie Lim....

I recently had a chance to see some of her illustrations at a recent gallery event. She also participated in a fashion show there as well.....

Her designs were amazing.... the palette was black and white ( my fav) and the pieces were sculptural, and had great texture....

Her work is both beautiful and dark.......

check out her work at http://connielim.com

you can also check out her fashion show at Gallery Nucleus at

I just love fashion photography..... I love how it can create a mood and environment and really bring a design to life.....

I particularly enjoy the way W Magazine does it....

The photos are beautiful and edgy, but do not take away from the clothes themselves...

These photos were from their October 2009 issue...the article was called "dream sequence."

There were a lot of lovely fabrics used.....lace, satin, tulle, velvet, and silk...... but the mood still remained just a little dark and edgy......just the way I like it.

you can see the entire article as well as the designers here:

That final dress......

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Ah, midterms....that time of the year when you have a million things to do and no time to do them....

My time the past two months has been consumed by patternmaking... and it is no easy feat.

For our midterm project we had to create the pattern, and sew this lovely little dress....

The skirt has inverted box pleating, the dress is lined with a contoured slip, and has buttons down the front....

Whew.... this dress was a lot of work....

It was well worth the time, as I did learn a lot sewing this dress....

I decided to line mine in a red cotton material, and the dress itself will be black...

Pics of the final dress to come.....

I had been anticipating seeing Alice in Wonderland since I first heard about it in October.....

I am a big fan of Tim Burton....

And Johnny Depp as the mad hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the red queen?? My kind of movie...

What I really enjoyed about the movie were the costumes. ....
wow...they were just great. What was especially delicious to me was the way Alice changed dresses anytime she grew taller or smaller.

And the dresses were great...

I did a little investigating into the movie and found the costume designer was Colleen Atwood.
She is an LA based designer and has designed for over 50 films....and she has done some really great stuff.....

Her creations for Burton are some of my favorites. She was the genius behind Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and Sweeney Todd. Her work is just amazing..

Her attention to detail is evident, and her design and fabric choices are spot on.

This is costume design done right.....

The Fall collections are always my favorites.....there are so many ways to play with textures and layers....

I am the gal who is always searching for that perfect little jacket...

L'wren Scott presented a very cohesive collection that included some very smart, ladylike jackets....

These are the type of pieces that you will want to add to your wardrobe......and they will look fresh and new for years to come...
